Last December I made a trade with my neighbor George Holz: he lent me chicken wire from his farm for an art project, and in exchange I shot portraits of him with a buck he shot that winter.
My childhood memories of Holz Farm are filled with family barbecues and 4-H, summers in the pond and springs with the lambs and baby chicks. As I—and my interest in photography—grew, I realized the incredible luck I had that beloved family friend George was also renowned photographer George Holz. I cherish this afternoon I spent taking images of George. My initial anxiety of photographing the photographer faded as he gave me full control of the camera and encouraged my ideas.
